2020 Nashville, Tennessee Reunion Rescheduling
Good morning all,
As you know from following the reports in the media (TV, radio, newspapers and online formats), corporations and organizations across the U. S. are canceling trade shows, meetings, sporting events and telling their employees or members not to travel unless it is absolutely necessary during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. Additional travel restrictions and or group meeting restrictions may be imposed in an attempt to minimize exposure to the virus. So, out of an abundance of caution, we have decided to cancel this year’s reunion in Nashville and reschedule it for June of 2021.
We are doing so, this far out from the reunion dates, for a number of reasons.
1.) Our country is just now starting to realize the impact that this virus is having in other countries and we are concerned that reporting of cases will continue to rise in the near future. Although June is still several months away, I do not think the virus will be contained by the time of our reunion and quite frankly no one needs the added stress.
2.) This virus is hitting the hardest among the age group of most of the people who attend our reunions. We’ve all seen pictures of travelers wearing masks as they go through airports and the extra procedures put in place to screen passengers. We are trying to avoid having many of our attendees go through this process.
3.) We, hopefully, would have had attendees from all over the US attending our reunion, some areas having more reported cases than others, and no one knows what the COVID-19 map will look like in late May and June. As the old adage goes, “It’s better to be safe than sorry”.
4.) By making the decision to reschedule the USS Nitro Association Reunion now rather than a month from now, we hope to avoid having our attendees make their airline reservations or other travel arrangements only to then have to cancel them.
There are probably more reasons for doing what we are doing but it boils down to not wanting to put our shipmates, friends and guests in an unknown and potentially dangerous situation.
The Nitro Reunion will be rescheduled for roughly the same time next year (2021) in Nashville. As details of dates are made, you will be notified by mail, email, Nitro Association web site, Nitro Association Facebook page, newsletter and/or phone.
The management at the Hilton Garden Inn Nashville Airport, scheduled to hold this year’s reunion, have been very accommodating in their response not only to the virus outbreak but in working with us on our cancellation of this year’s reunion and rescheduling for next year. We will work very closely with them on the guest room pricing and dinner cost for next year. Obviously, those costs at this time are not known.
Hotel Room Reservation cancellation and Reunion activity refunds: I have been in contact with the Hilton Garden Inn Nashville Airport and you should be receiving a phone call from them asking if you would like to cancel your reservation. You may also call them to cancel your reservation for the Nitro reunion, please call the hotel directly at 1-615-884-0088. This is the best way to ensure your reservation has been properly canceled.
For those of you who have paid for your the dinner, we will be sending out a refund check.
A note about extending the reunion into 2021: The current Nitro Association Board will remain in a caretaker capacity through the reunion, there will be no dues collected or dues premiums bought for 2021. We will not be accepting scholarship donations either. At this time, it is uncertain if we will be accepting scholarship application or awarding any scholarships for 2021.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at your convenience.
